A REEIS Auditor is a highly trained and accredited energy efficiency industry professional whose primary job is to perform a complete diagnostic test of a home in an effort to determine its energy consumption patterns. The Auditor home examination, called a Home Performance Analysis (HPA), outlines the assessment of the current state of the condition of the home and makes recommendations to the most appropriate energy efficiency improvements need to meet energy saving goals. The HPA addresses the house as a whole house system and takes into consideration the interaction between various aspects of the home.
The Auditor’s testing protocol typically includes the following:
- A detailed site and house visual inspection
- Whole house blower door test
- Pressure imbalance testing
- HVAC evaluation
- HVAC duct leakage test – duct blaster test
- Thermal imaging assessment where appropriate
- Software analysis – determine best package of improvements for utility savings
- Improvement recommendations and estimate savings
REEIS employs auditors certified by the Building Performance Institute (BPI) and RESNET. Their standards are officially recognized by the U.S. mortgage industry for capitalizing an existing building’s energy performance in the mortgage loan, certification of “White Tags” for private financial investors, and by the federal government for verification of building energy performance for such programs as federal tax incentives, the Environmental Protection Agency’s Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Weatherization Assistance Program.
