Unless there is a concerted shift in energy policy and consumption, global energy demand growth is set to accelerate over the next 20 years.  This will not only make efforts to combat climate change even more challenging but also impose significant cost on the world economy, businesses and consumers in an era of historically high energy prices.  Yet there is a solution. . .reduce energy demand in our built environment through the use of energy efficiency retrofit technologies.

In the United States, the existing building stock’s consumption of energy is responsible for more than 40% of our nation’s energy consumption.    Fortunately, there are a tremendous number of relatively simple changes that can modernize or repair buildings to perform at the highest standards. These existing economically viable technologies could easily cut the energy consumption of most homes and commercial buildings by 30% - 40% and greenhouse gas emissions associated with these buildings by 40% - 50%.
